Manly Warringah Sea Eagles are today moving full steam ahead in their quest for 15,000 Members after reaching an agreement with Warringah Council over Brookvale Oval hiring fees.
The Sea Eagles and Council last night came to an agreement for the next two years which will see the Club pay $375,000 per annum and being provided with the right to sell the naming rights to Brookvale Oval.
The Club is now gearing up for a massive season opener against arch rivals Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs at Brookvale Oval on Friday March 4.
Sea Eagles CEO Joe Kelly said the agreement reached with Council was a win for Members, Corporates and supporters.
“Brookvale Oval has been our spiritual home since 1947 and we never entertained playing anywhere else in our 70th year,” said Kelly.
"This outcome is the balance between striking a commercially sound hiring fee arrangement at Brookvale Oval and providing the certainty for our Members, Corporate Partners and supporters. We can all now focus on the season ahead.”
Mr Kelly said the decision means fans that were hesitant to commit to membership in 2016 can now do so in confidence.
“With this issue now resolved, there’s no better time to become a proud Sea Eagles Member. This week we hit the 10,000 Member milestone and with the season drawing closer every day and reserved seats still available, we’re hoping to hit our target of 15,000 following this decision,” Kelly added.
Captain Jamie Lyon called on the Manly faithful to celebrate the milestone season at Brookvale Oval when the Sea Eagles host the Bulldogs in Round 1.
“As a playing group we love nothing more than running out in front of a parochial and packed ‘Brookie’ crowd,” Lyon said.
“It’s going to be a great match against the Bulldogs and we hope to see plenty of maroon and white on the night.
“Our 70th season is shaping up as a massive year and what better way to kick it off than with a full house at ‘The Fortress’.”
