Manly Warringah centre Tony Satini is planning to bring the latest dance craze to the Auckland Nines should he score a try at Eden Park today.
The ‘Dab’ has taken American and British sport by storm with athletes across many codes now doing their own version of the dance that started out in the hip hop music scene.
“Everyone is doing the Dab from soccer stars, gridiron players, to NBA basketballers, so why not do it,’’ Satini laughed.
“To do it, you just drop your head whilst you raise an arm, and you rest the face inside the elbow. It is pretty cool.
“If I do get a try, I will throw in the ‘Dab’ and do a few handshakes with the boys. I only scored the one try at the Nines last season, so I am looking for at least two so I can really do the ‘Dab’.”
Satini said he enjoyed the fast pace of the Nines and believes it is the perfect way for players to kick start their season again.
“It is the thrill of playing footy again. Even though it is not 13 against 13, it is just that feeling of being back on the field against opposition and not just your team mates,’’ Satini said.
“The Nines is just a great starting point for every fan to get excited about the new season.”
Satini said the hard work the players had done under new trainer Dan Ferris (Head of Physical Performance) will ensure the Sea Eagles cope with the frantic pace of the Nines, as well as the demands of the NRL season.
“The pre-season training has been a lot different to previous years. It has been really good,’’ he said.
“The new coaching staff under Trent Barrett have been awesome. Dan has just given us that extra edge and we needed it.
“As a playing group, we are fitter than we have ever been before.”
