Matt Parcell couldn’t help but grin when he scored the match winning try for the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in their first win of the 2016 Auckland Nines.

Unwanted by former club, Brisbane Broncos, and sent to play in the Intrust Cup after signing with the Sea Eagles last season, Parcell wasted little time in reminding his former club of his exceptional talents in the 11-8 win at Eden Park today.

Trailing 8-7 inside the final minute, the Sea Eagles put in a kick through second-rower Nathan Green and Parcell did the rest.

“I saw Greeny go down the sideline. We needed to come up with something pretty special on the last play,’’ Parcell said.

“I wanted him to kick it infield a bit more but once he kicked it, I knew I could get there.

“It was pretty special to dive on the ball to score.”
