Feleti Mataeo will be looking to use his creative ball skills a lot more in 2016.

The 30-year-old Mateo was hampered by injury at different times and played 19 games in his first season at the club after spending four seasons at the Warriors.

He joined the Sea Eagles as a back-rower but his tremendous ball skills and versatility means Mateo is equally at home at five-eighth or lock. Mateo started 14 games in the second-row.

Which position Mateo is best suited to will be one for Coach Trent Barett and his staff to work out during the pre-season.

An ankle injury sidelined him for a month before he returned with a strong performance in the win over the Newcastle Knights at Brookvale Oval in round nine.

Mateo was able to string together a consistent run of matches and was dominant in the big win over the Brisbane Broncos in Gosford.

On his day, Mateo remains a huge threat to any opposition with his strong fend and ball skills.
