The ‘Prince of Brookvale’ – Brett Stewart - rose to the occasion again in season 2015.
Stewart enjoyed a stellar season, be it lighting up ‘Fortress Brookie’ with one of his trademark home ground tries, splitting the defence with his elusive skills, to his uncanny ability to ‘pop up’ at the right time to score a vital try – as evident in his last minute four pointer in the Round 23 away victory over Canberra.
The 30-year-old's calmness at the back and safety under the high ball remains first class.
2015 milestones:
- 16 tries in 22 games
- Rd 2: surpassed Steve Menzies’ record of 78 tries for the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval with a double against Melbourne.
- Rd 9: equalled Menzies’ record of 151 tries for Manly Warringah Sea Eagles with two tries against Newcastle at Brookvale Oval.
- Rd 10: crosses for two tries against Penrith to set the new record for most first grade tries for Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
- Scored two tries on six occasions - Storm (rd 2), Newcastle (rd 9), Penrith (rd 10), Wests Tigers (rd 15), Warriors (rd 20), Canberra (rd 23).
- Holds the record for most first grade tries for Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, 162 tries in 222 games.
- 2015 Club awards: Gordon Willoughby Medal (voted by Members); NRL Players’ Player Award; leading try scorer.
Stewart also had his contract extended with the Sea Eagles until the end of the 2017 season.
In 2016, 'Snake' will play an enormous role in the team’s push to return to the finals series under new Coach Trent Barrett.
His leadership and experience of 13 years in the NRL will continue to be invaluable as he mentors the younger players coming through.
On the tryscoring front, Stewart needs just two more tries to equal Menzies’ record for most tries scored at Brookvale Oval.
Note: Steve Menzies scored 78 tries for Manly and 10 for the Northern Eagles at Brookvale.
