Ian Martin over Cliff Lyons at five-eighth? That's the opinon of former Manly Warringah Sea Eagles winger Max Brown.
Brown joined former prop Mark Bryant at training on Monday to help celebrate the club's 1500th first grade game milestone ahead of the clash against the Cowboys this Satuday night.
Whilst most have selected Lyons (309 games) as their chosen five-eighth, Brown named Martin (155 games) for the six jersey when asked which former players would he select in the best ever Sea Eagles team since their inception in 1947.
"You would have to have Graham Eadie as fullback, Terry Randall, Freddie Jones and I guess Malcolm Reilly and Phil Lowe if we look at a few imports,'' Brown said.
"Bozo (Bob Fulton) would be in there, but the one player you would never leave out at five-eighth would be Ian Martin. I believe he was the best five-eighth to have never played for Australia."
Bryant said there was such a great list of players to choose fom.
“Guys like Beaver (Steve Menzies) would obviously have to be in there, the things he could do on a football field were phenomenal,'' Bryant said.
"Cliffy Lyons could still pull on a jersey and hold his own, he might be a bit slower but he still has the vision and timing.”
