Skipper, Jamie Lyon spoke with media today answering questions around his fitness, potential new interchange rules and the debate over concussion injuries.
Lyon was a last minute withdrawal on Friday night against the Bulldogs and his presence was missed as Manly narrowly lost to the Canterbury outfit. With Lyon being named this week and expecting to play the Club captain did not want to jump the gun, tipping Friday as D-Day.
“Yeah it was disappointing I didn’t play, I would have loved to have been out there at Brookvale in front of the fans. Obviously it’s disappointing and hopefully I will be right this week,” said Lyon.

Media were quick to query Lyon on his thoughts about today’s announcement that the NRL will be reviewing and looking into a possible rule change regarding the interchange bench. Lyon’s verdict was positive and he welcomed a fresh idea that would benefit the game.
“Yeah I like the idea of the interchange being reduced, I think it will be better for the game, a little bit more free flowing, a little bit more attack and it will be better for the fans. I think it’s a good move,” Lyon stated.
Another focus points from the media were around the growing debate of concussion injuries. Just this morning Bulldogs captain, James Graham suggested that it should be up to the players whether or not they are right to play. Yet, Lyon was more conservative in his response suggesting that it’s difficult one to touch on.
“It’s a tough one to gauge, concussion. You haven’t got much time to make a decision; players are obviously going to want to stay on the field. But Safety is probably paramount.”
