The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles have scored a massive coup by extending the contract of head coach Geoff Toovey for a further two years.
The new deal will see Toovey remain at the club until the end of 2016, with Sea Eagles general manager Dave Perry announcing the retention at the club’s 2014 season launch last night.
“The whole club is proud of the fact that Geoff has agreed to a two year extension for seasons 2015 and ’16,” Perry said.
“You wouldn’t find a more passionate and committed leader of the Sea Eagles and this will no doubt rub off on the playing group and the culture of the club.”
His extension comes as a massive boost just days out from the NRL season opener as the club prepares for their bid to improve on last year’s grand final loss at the hands of the Roosters.
“It’s great to be at the club for a couple more years. I think it is a fantastic place to be and to be a member and associated with,” Toovey said.
“The club has got a great history and hopefully we will have many more years of success and support from the fans.
“We fell short last year but I’m quite confident we’ve got a side that can give it a shake this year and that’s exactly what we will be doing.”
Toovey took over the reigns at the Sea Eagles after Des Hasler joined the Bulldogs in 2012.
Since then, Toovey has guided the Sea Eagles to consecutive top-four finishes as well as a grand final berth last year.
