After suffering a serious knee injury in the Round 24 demolition of the Newcastle Knights last season, winger David Williams revealed he’s well on his way back to the field.
Speaking to seaeagles.com.au, Williams said that everything during his rehabilitation has gone to plan so far.
“The recovery is coming along very steadily, I’ve had all good signs so far,” Williams said. “I’ve hit all my markers, so I’m looking forward to getting back into the full time training squad.
“The only thing different this time around is it’s the knee. I’ve pretty much got into a routine over the past five years of being in rehab, so I’m pretty used to it.”
Ben Farrar is another player who’s spent significant time on the sidelines as of recent times, and is someone who’s been of real assistance to Williams.
“He’s actually helping me a lot, because he had the same injury. I’ve been asking him a lot about what he’s done, because he’s six months earlier than I am. Just what he did at certain stages.
“He’s been an absolute gem.”

When asked about the squad for 2013, Williams was quick to point out that the starting side is anything but set in stone, with some fresh faces piling on the pressure for spots in the game day 17.
“I don’t think anything is settled quite yet. We’ve got some young blokes in and some new blokes who are battling for spots as well. It always makes it hard coming back from an injury like mine, to break in when they’ve had a full pre-season behind them.
“Having a bit of fresh blood and even the new blokes, creates a different atmosphere. I think everyone has settled down a lot more than last year, through all the challenges we went through.
“Everyone knows what we’re doing, and we can just get on with playing football, which is what we love.”
So then, when will we see the Wolfman back in action?
“We’re going week-to-week at the moment. I’ve just been upgraded in my training to start speed, so that’s a big jump ahead from where I was.
“I’ll be looking to get as close to the start of the season as possible, but it all depends on the coaches and physios.
“I’m hoping to be back as soon as possible, and I’m feeling good with where I’m at.”
