Snake hosts Diabetes Christmas party

Following on from the great success of his specially designed Diabetes Jersey, Brett Stewart continued his Diabetes education campaign on Friday night, inviting kids suffering with the disease to a special Christmas party.

Kids aged from nine to 14 came down to Big Blast at Brookvale to celebrate the season with games and presents but, more importantly, to share in Brett's experience living with diabetes.

Brett hopes he was able show kids how they can minimise the impact diabetes has on their life and not let the disease get in the way of their dreams.

"I hope my experience will be helpful to others," he said.

"If you have dreams and aspirations, for example to play professional sport and go where you want, then diabetes certainly won't get in your way.

"It hasn't affected my life a great deal and that is another reason why I want to show kids and families that you can lead a day-to-day life just like a normal person can," Stewart said.

The kids launched straight into fun and games with Snake, Gift and Wolfman, hanging out on the velcro wall, challenging the boys at air hockey and duking it out with the gladiator pads. Santa even made an appearance and handed out presents.
