New Sea Eagles test to impress

After a week of testing, Sea Eagles high performance manager Brendan Inkster is impressed with the new recruits' potential and he now has high expectations for the returning players.

The newly arrived Sea Eagles spent this week undergoing a range of fitness tests to give the coaches a clearer picture of their physical abilities.

Armed with the results from this week, Inkster and head conditioner Donny Singe will craft pre-season programs specifically designed make the most of each player's strengths and eliminate any weakness.

"The new guys have performed really well this week," Inkster said. "They're already exceeding last year's averages."

"They've set a great benchmark and I'm looking forward to the returning players following suit and really building on last year's scores."

The rest of the squad gets back to work on Monday and will jump into the same tests. It's been more than a month since they've trained together but none of them have been sitting idle during that time.

At least Inkster hopes they haven't, because there's a lot of hard work ahead, including the dreaded beep test.

"There's plenty more where that came from," Inkster said. "Pre-season's just kicking off."

"We've got another, more vigorous round of testing in a couple of weeks and I don't think the players will enjoy it!"
