NSW Cup itching for 2013 kick off

After taking out the Jason Annear Memorial 7's in their first run for the year, Luke Williamson's NSW Cup players and the NYC young guns are looking exciting for the season ahead, including a blockbuster at Brookvale in Round 1.
The Jason Annear Memorial Sevens tournament is a great initiative towards the lasting memory of a player who meant so much to so many people.
The schedule for the inaugural event was footy, fun and plenty of sun. And it delivered!
The weather played its part, with temperatures reaching a staggering 35 degrees. But the standard of footy didn't falter, with a couple of games going the distance and giving the strong crowd what they had come to see.
Jason’s father Craig, who is a trainer for Manly’s NSW Cup side, was beaming with pride as the day culminated in Jason’s two favourite teams, Berkeley Vale and Manly, battling it out in the grand final.
Berkeley Vale wore a specially designed split jersey, half Sea Eagles and half Berkeley Vale Panthers, in honour of their former club-mate. Each jersey bore 207: the number of games Jason played for his junior club.
It was a tough match but the Sea Eagles drew away in the second half to claim the first victory in what is going to be an exciting annual event which will draw some of the best to start off their season campaigns.
The young Sea Eagles team, made up of NYC and NSW Cup players, slipped right back into footy mode as the tournament began.
Even though we are still in pre-season training, a number of players excelled and you could see the advantage they had over the opposition with some strenuous training under their belts.
Kayse Greer was excellent, with some good footwork and great ball skills, as was Dylan Strickland and new St George recruit Ben Musolino.
There's some great developing talent among this squad and you'll get a chance to pick out the Sea Eagles of the future as they show their wares in our first trial for 2013, against Cronulla Sharks at Brookvale on Friday, February 8th.
Whether it be the 4th quarter of the NYC game or patches throughout the NRL game, the NSW State Cup will have a presence on the pitch next Friday week.
Make your way to Bluetongue Stadium on Saturday February 16th to watch the NYC and NRL squads take on the Roosters.
This leads into the third and final trial, which is just NSW Cup: Sea Eagles v Newcastle Knights at Toronto Sports ground on Sunday February 24th at 5.00pm.
Meanwhile, your first taste of Fortress Brookvale for 2013 might be coming sooner than you think.
The NRL boys are away in Brisbane for Round one but there's plenty of local footy to kick off the 2013 season.
NSW Cup take on the Auckland Vulcans at Brookvale Oval at 3.00pm on Saturday, March 9, followed by Harold Matthews and SG Ball.
So, if you're itching to get your fix of Maroon and White on the first weekend of 2013 footy, come on down and enjoy the next generation of the mighty Manly Warringah Sea Eagles.
