Ahead of his imminent return to the field after almost a year sidelined with a knee injury, Ben Farrar believes it’s an exciting time to be involved with the Sea Eagles.
With a host of new faces drafted into the squad, Farrar feels this competitive environment will help get the best out of himself and the squad as a whole this season.
“They’re exciting times, it’s pretty refreshing,” Farrar said. “It’s probably the biggest turnover I’ve seen since I’ve been here.
“Some of the depth we have now is really good. There are guys putting pressure on for spots, it’s pretty competitive.
“Some of the new guys have been really impressive, creating a good competitive environment here. That’s when everyone plays their best football, when you’ve got pressure on yourself and you know you’ve got to perform, not only in games but in training as well.”

There are a number of spots up for grabs in the side this season, particularly in the outside backs. While Farrar is optimistic about his chances of returning to the first grade side, he realises there is much work to do before returning to the NRL.
“I’ve just got to get back out on the field. It’s been a long time since I’ve played any sort of competitive football, really.
“I’m fully aware that it might take me a little while to get going, and I’m prepared for that, but first and foremost I’ve got to get back out on the field, hopefully start playing some good football, and we’ll see where that takes me.
“I’m hopeful, but not expecting it. I know I’ve got to get some match fitness and confidence, get over a few things mentally. I’m confident I’ll get back there, but I know it’s a long road to recovery."
A favourite of many Sea Eagles Members and supporters, Farrar can’t wait to run out onto Brookvale Oval again.
“It’s been a long wait. When I think back to my last game, the semi final against the Dragons a couple of years ago, it feels like forever.
“It’ll be great to get back in the maroon and white, and hopefully run out onto a packed Brookie.”
